Black Sun

One part martial arts stage show, one part animated projection, this video of performance group Kagemu's show Black Sun in Paris has easy appeal. Front projection of CG animation from visual designer Nobuyuki Hanabusa provides spacial depth to the interactive, shadowy spectacle.

38-39Â°C

Kangmin Kim's evocative, dreamlink 38-39Â°C is no idle fantasy, but slowly builds from watery relaxation to a pulse-pounding rhythm, all while exploring the odd connections between a father and son. Finally available online after a long and worthy festival run that included Sundance 2012, the mixed-media stop motion piece effortlessly combines cutouts, vaseline-wiped lenses, and direct-on-film effects in a continuation of Kim's unique style.

Metamorphosis

BUCK summons the ghost of Hunter S. Thompson in Metamorphosis. This shake-rattle-rolling spew of slick animation and rambling words was made to promote Good Books, an online retailer who pass all proceeds to Oxfam.

The Honor Code

Poignant animated documentary short by Katy Chevigny, animated by Richard O'Connor and Ace & Son Moving Picture Company about the horrors of honor killings. Premiering this past April 2012 at the Tribeca Film Festival, the film integrates and animates on top of an interview with philosopher Kwame Anthony Appiah describing how change in deeply rooted cultural beliefs such as honor killings can be achieved once people decide change can and must be made.

Drunk With Love - Rana Farhan

A beautiful and bold short film - music video by Iranian animator Fatima Yasrebi. Based on a work by iconic Iranian poet Rumi, Rana Farham's song speaks melodically where the sounds of women are forbidden. Fatima used various hand drawn techniques with paper as well as rotoscoping.

Balloons

A unique and completely experimental project consisting of a stop motion animation where each frame is a popping balloon. The film was done for MTV Brazil's "The music never stops" campaign – which celebrates music through its pop icons.

Panic Attack!

Giant robots appear out of the mist and attack Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. Accompanied by a squadron of spacecraft, they fire weapons at the city and destroy key buildings, leading to mass panic. At the end of the film, the robots fuse together to form a giant sphere, which then detonates and engulfs the city in a fireball. No explanation is given for the attack.

WinterHunt

An Eskimo hunter sets out in a blizzard in search of prey. He finds an unlikely one â€” an egg that has just hatched and mistakes him for its mother. But when an angry Yeti notices what's happening, the hunter shortly becomes the hunted, needing assistance from his former prey.
